MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) weight is calculated using the same formula as any material: Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density. Standard MDF has a density of approximately 48 pounds per cubic foot (770 kg/m³), though it can range from 37.5 to 50 lb/ft³ depending on the manufacturer and grade.

For a standard 4×8-foot sheet, multiply the sheet area (32 sq ft) by the thickness in feet, then multiply by the density. MDF has a notably consistent density throughout the sheet — unlike plywood, which has voids and varying grain directions — making weight calculations for MDF highly predictable.

A useful shortcut for MDF: standard density MDF weighs approximately 2.5 pounds per square foot per inch of thickness. So a ¾-inch thick, 4×8 sheet weighs roughly 80 to 96 pounds depending on the brand and density rating.
