Calculating the weight of granite requires three measurements and one material constant. Measure the length, width, and thickness of your granite piece in consistent units, calculate the volume by multiplying all three dimensions together, then multiply the volume by granite's density to get the total weight.

The formula is straightforward: Weight = Length × Width × Thickness × Density. Granite's density typically ranges from 160 to 180 pounds per cubic foot, with 168 lb/ft³ (2,700 kg/m³) being the most commonly used average for standard granite varieties. Denser black granites like Absolute Black can reach 185 lb/ft³, while lighter varieties like Kashmir White may come in around 158 lb/ft³.

When working in imperial units, make sure all dimensions are in feet before multiplying. If you measured thickness in inches, divide by 12 to convert to feet. For example, a 1.25-inch thick slab would be 0.104 feet thick.
